Why Do Customers Buy Products? Here is Why I Buy From People. #184

Why Do Customers Buy

Why Do Customers Buy Products? Here Are My Personal Reasons.

There are 3 people I will buy from essentially without hesitation.  You may or not have heard me talk about these three individuals before but I will share more about them today.  But before I do that I want you to think about a business or a person that for some reason you have no problem making a purchase from. Why do you feel that way about the business or person?  What kind of relationship do you have with that business or person?  Now while you are ponding that I will tell you about these 3 individuals.

Scott Brown – Tacoma R/C Raceway Business Owner

Scott Brown owns Tacoma R/C (Radio Controlled)  Raceway in the City of Tacoma.  Scott has been racing RC cars since he was a kid and has been sponsored by Team Associated since he was a teenager.  He has won countless championships and has been a mentor and role model in the R/C racing industry.

As I have previously mentioned he is the owner of an indoor track for off-road R/C cars.  Since I have lived in Tacoma there have been probably 5 to 10 competing R/C tracks that have opened throughout the state.  And in my 13 years of living here, I don’t think any of his competitors are still in business.  But Scott’s business is stronger than ever.

So how has his business made it through even some of the toughest economic times?  How has he lasted longer than anyone else in the area?

There are probably 100 different reasons he has been so successful over the years but I want to share just a few of them that I have noticed.  The ones I have noticed have made me a fan of not only the business but the owner himself.

Extraordinary Customer Service

Scott is the type of guy that will help someone fix their RC Car no matter what the problem is and no matter who you are.  You could be a new customer an old customer or a customer that visits his store once a year.  He will personally help you and not ask for anything in return.  You will have to buy the parts but he doesn’t charge for the labor or his expertise;  He just helps with no expectation in return.

His friendly personality and customer service is why I won’t buy my R/C stuff anywhere else but from him even if I pay a little more.  This is why I rave about him to you, in a totally unrelated industry.  This is a contributing reason as to why I have continued with the hobby of R/C racing and continue racing with my son.

I could share the many instances over the years I have observed related to how he has served others but I think you get the point.  If there was anything to be learned about serving customers it can be learned from Scott Brown.

Brant Hansen

It was about 6 or 7 years ago when I purchased a new surveillance vehicle. It was a black Hyundai Santa Fe.  I totally broke my own rules associated to buying a surveillance vehicle.  Unfortunately, my choices were limited at the time related to the color of the vehicle but I did like the vehicle itself.  So how does Brant Hansen relate to this story?  Was he the car dealer? No, I was first introduced to Brant after turning on the radio on my way home from the dealership.

I realized the radio was programmed to a Christian music station called Air 1.  I had never heard of it before and hadn’t listened to a Christian radio station in years.  But there was this guy named Brant Hansen on the radio.  He was awkward, funny, and entertaining.  I found out over the years he is a husband and a father as well.  So what attracted me to him was he wasn’t what I was used to seeing with Christian radio personalities.  He questioned things and challenged ideas.  He was truly about his listeners and a champion of the less fortunate.  It wasn’t just talk.  He walked the walk.  I listened to Air 1 every day just to listen to him on the radio.

Between me and you, after finding him and that radio station I grew more as a Christian and as a person in general.  My heart softened quite a bit during that time.

Brant also worked to get donations for CURE, an organization that specifically focuses on the children that have conditions like clubfoot, bowed legs, cleft lips, untreated burns, and hydrocephalus.

Brant also has Asperger’s Syndrome and Nystagmus, which causes his eyes to shake and his head to move involuntarily but that hasn’t stopped him in life.

So then one day Brant informed his audience that he was going to leave Air 1.  And although I am sure there were several reasons I remember the main reason being that Air 1 became less worried about the people they were serving and more worried about the business side of things (Air 1 only exists by donations).  Brant felt that they should be more worried about the people they were serving.  He felt that they had lost their focus and the true mission of the business and he couldn’t be a part of that. So Brant left and was jobless for a short period of time before working for the CURE as an employee.

Taken from his bio:

He has written for CNN.com, The Washington Post, U.S. News and World Report, The South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Relevant, and numerous other outlets on matters as varied as public policy, culture, sports, Asperger’s Syndrome, and faith. He’s been a game inventor, fronted a modern rock band, still dabbles in singing and songwriting.

He has since written two books (affiliate links) – Unoffendable and the more recent one that was just released Blessed are the Misfits.

He has also been on a TED Talk.

Whenever this guy sells something I buy it whether I need it or not.  I buy from him because has been a positive influence on my life and because of how he serves others.  His heart is in the right place from what I can see and hear from him.  And if buying his book (whether I read it or not) allows for him to reach more people with his messages and have an influence on others directly or indirectly then I will support him.

Here is a video that talks about him a little.

Pat Flynn (Smart Passive Income)

The reason you are reading this very article is a result of finding a video from Pat Flynn associated to how to make a website.   I found myself immersed in learning how to make one and the Search Engine Optimization that surrounded a website.  And that adventure spawned what is this Private Investigator Advice website.  He was also the influence that pushed me to make videos for you and to create a podcast. To this day I still listen to his podcast to learn different things related to how to serve you better on this website.

Over the years Pat Flynn has been transparent, ethical and has always tried to do the right by his audience.  He is very family focused and his very pursuit in business seems to be about providing the best information he can for his audience. I have watched him grow and learn and then share those experiences and wisdom with others over and over again.

So when Pat Flynn sells something I buy it because I know his product is going to make me better and help me provide a better product for you.  I trust him, and the knowledge he shares because I know he is about serving the community and audience that follows him.

Here is a talk he gave a couple of years ago.  He is a HUGE Back to the Future fan.

It’s About Serving Your Customer

The one thing that stands out between all three of these men and their business is that they serve others in their line of work.  They all serve in a different way but their service to their customers I believe is a direct reflection of their success in life.

Brian Patrick Eha wrote in Entrepreneur Magazine, “Customers often buy from the businesses and sales professionals whom they like on a personal level.”

This too is true and why I purchase from the aforementioned individuals.  I like their character and what they stand for.  I like how they treat others.  I like how they serve others.

Here is the last quote I want to share before I wrap up my final thoughts.

“You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want,” Zig Ziglar.

Final Thoughts – Why do Customers Buy Products

As an employee of a private investigation company you are going to meet a lot of interesting people in the public and who you will work with.  Work hard for the clients and company you work for. Give it your best effort in serving them.  In doing this you find yourself in better positions financially as time passes.

As a private investigation business owner serve your clients to the best of your ability.  If you don’t have the knowledge to serve them, pass the job onto someone who can.

Anyone can sweet talk a client to get one investigation assignment.  But sweet talking or misleading a client does not build trust and trust is the name of the game in the investigation business.  People and companies hire investigators and investigation companies they can trust. How do you earn their trust? You can earn it through your actions.

Imagine if your customers felt the way about you like I feel about the three business owners above? If they trust you and know you will serve them with their best interest at heart, how can you not have a raving customer that will only want to buy from you?

Thank you for your time.  Here is another article on private investigator marketing that you may enjoy.
