Toshiba 2 TB 3.0 USB External Hard Drive and Why You Should Have One- #166

Inside box of Toshiba Hard Drive

I remember the day when my computer had something like 100 GB hard drive.  I remembered when my father and I discussed how much storage it was and how we would never be able to fill it completely.  And over the years I have had computers with much larger hard drives and I still manage to fill them.

I have noticed that each time my computer’s hard drive storage begins to fill completely, my computer begins to run much slower.  A slow running computer can be very frustrating when I am trying to get work done.

There have been times where my computer has completely crashed and I had to transfer everything from the computer’s hard drive onto an external hard drive just to make sure I didn’t lose all my family videos and pictures.

Many investigators store video, documents, photos and case information on external hard drives as a way of storing information without bogging down their computers and also to back up important information.  And those hard drives are secured in safe locations.

Having an external hard drive can come in handy for a private investigator or anyone that needs additional storage space.

For me, the Toshiba 2 TB External Hard Drive is the largest external hard drive I have purchased to date.

When I checked the available storage after connecting the device to my computer, the hard drive showed 1.8 TB of available space. I am not sure as to the reason for this but I think this is something common with hard drives (generally speaking).

This device uses a USB 3.0 to transfer data to and from the device. I was able to transfer over 3 GB photos and video in about a 1 minute and 30 seconds with my computer.  When trying to transfer more than one file at a time it will slow the process.

When I tested the Toshiba 2 TB 3.0 USB External Hard Drive I used the QICENT 7 USB Hub that connected to my computer which also has a 3.0 USB connection.

This hard drive is formatted as NTFS (New Technology File System) and is designed for Windows computers.  For Mac compatibility, it will require a reformatting of the drive according to the Amazon sales page. I didn’t find anything related to this in the instructions.

If you are concerned about making sure your hard drive is secure there are other external hard drives being sold that are password protected.  I hope to test one of these in the near future.

I personally trust the Toshiba brand when it comes to hard drives because I have not had any problems to date.
